How to put your life back together after a vacation
You know the magic of being on a trip? Anywhere, doesn’t have to be a three week long in Greece, could be a 3-day trip to the city closest to you, there’s always a little magic, the vacation bubble my therapist and I call it. It’s like everything’s good even if it isn’t and when you get back even if on the moment it wasn’t the best time, you kind of miss it now. Not everybody feels this way but some of us do, I do. We need to talk about the return, when you only want to be still at this place with these people and these memories, you miss them, you think of them but how the hell do you get back in the routine? Maybe it’s completely easy for you, but it isn’t for everyone.
Happened to me almost every trip, and today I feel it. I want to go back where I spent my last week of June, and even though I’m really trying, these last days I faced some of my big issues and getting back in the routine was harder than I thought and I actually really wanted to get back in it since I left Europe. Let’s see some tips to help you.
Also, don’t be hard on yourself if it’s difficult the first few days, cause you’re lifting yourself from the nice magic vacation bubble to your everyday life being enjoyable or not.
- Take a day off
Take a day where you don’t do shit, to just let your body and soul relax from the return. Don’t feel bad for it, we need these kinds of days and if you’re already busy and can’t do that, well you’ll get back into your routine faster, but a day off really is a blessing. Just listen to your own needs.
- List your everyday routine
Put on a list of everything you usually do everyday. Look at it closely and try to keep up with these things. Here are some of mines to give you some ideas, they can be really simple.
- Read my page of the day in my 365 meditation book by Brianna Wiest
- Skincare morning and night
- Clean my room
- Give my cat food/clean his litter
- Go on a walk
- Take my magnesium before going to sleep
- Journaling
- Get to bed at a reasonable time
If you want to be in a healthy routine for your life, you should be getting enough sleep to get through each day. That can indeed help you get back to the routine, not obligated to go exactly at your usual time, but try to go earlier than when you were on vacation to slowly get the beat.
- Move your ass
After the day off, try to have a bit more productive day, the one you usually do in your routine. It doesn’t have to be the most productive but it can help you find your routine again. It is as simple as just going to the gym, doing some Yoga/meditation, making your meal preps, reading, etc.
- Selfcare time
Don’t forget to take care of yourself, it’s important in whatever way it truly makes you feel good and happier.
- Drink water
As simple as it is, water is important for you, and maybe you didn’t drink enough on your trip so give some to your body.
- Prepare your outfits
Prepare them for the coming week, it actually helps some people to just set back the clock to where they were before vacation.
- Everything shower
Reset the week and wash off the getting back from the trip energy you have. I don’t know about you but these showers are one of the bests they be making me feel like a new person.
- To do list
If you come back and have ton of shit to do, make a to do list and get them done. Also, give yourself a reward after you’re done with the list. Could be like getting your favorite dessert for tonight’s dinner, or giving yourself some time tomorrow to go shopping.
- Get yourself a goal
It has always help getting back into the routine to just think about a goal I really wanted to achieve or something to have but I’d need to work for it. Could be a next vacation, something really expensive you want to buy but can’t at the moment, maybe make a budget for those things.
It could also be professionally I mean you’re not only getting back into your personal life but also your professional one, so maybe there’s something you really are motivated to achieve, think about it again and motivate yourself towards that goal again. It’ll keep you moving closer to your routine.
Those are the tips I have for you, although it’s not easy, keep it up you’ll get back in it again and you’ll get into another vacation again too. Also, cut yourself some slack, lifting from the bubble to the routine asks a lot of work from you, but you can do it.
I know you can.
