Last week we talked about selfcare and how important it is. This week, we’re diving into something quite related and which benefits from selfcare; Mental health. On this Tuesday, October 10th, 2023 it is the World Mental Health Day and this date is here to remind you how much you can’t function or live happy if your mental health is not being taken care of. It is as important as your physical health and neglecting either one of them will harm you in many different ways.
On my part, I did neglect my mental health for such a long time, and neglecting it can be done by many ways such as unhealthy coping mechanisms, ignoring your true feelings, letting yourself down (which can also be done in so many ways), etc. One day, I took action to take better care of myself and realised how many fucking issues I had and how much I was letting my own mental health down which resolved in me becoming someone I didn’t want to become. That’s when I realised I wanted to heal and regularly care AND take care of me, for me and the people around me, because they are impacted too by your actions and way of living.
I also feel like people don’t all understand mental health and may think you’re crazy when you say you have mental issues/illness, but having them is not being crazy, it’s being human. We’re all different and we all suffer somewhere, but the way we handle it, protect it, care for it and respect it, makes us unique. It makes us the person we either want or later realise we don’t want to become. It’s all part of our journey, but a human with a mental health being taken care of is a happier and more peaceful human than the one who let’s his mental health become as dirty as a dish sponge (it’s literally the dirtiest thing in your whole house).
Here are some small ways to take care of your mental health
- Move your body
I’ll never say it enough, moving in any way boosts your serotonin and godddd it is so good for you. Get your fucking ass up and either go on a walk, in a yoga class, to the gym or just fucking do 12 push ups right now.
- Clear your mind
Look at your hairbrush please. How many hairs are on it? Can you see some kind of dust? Does it look clean? Probably not and I’m sure you’re not doing your hair a favor by brushing them with this. It’s the same for your mind, clear it and then you’ll be able to use it in many better ways. For ideas, you can read my latest post, What about selfcare?.
- Become at peace with yourself
It is a big progress, but being in the progress is healthier for your mind than to just think, ”ugh I should try to be better”. Stop those ”should try” and do it cause you’re on Mother Earth to be a human being and love being it. If you’re not at peace with yourself, how are you going to fulfill this life of yours? Again, it’s a long process, but trying is going to get you somewhere, ”should try” is not.
- Get your own routine
If you’re not a routine person, your routine can be to just wake up and do something you don’t usually do and try to do this at least 4 times a week and it’ll push you to try new things without doing the same every week. Doing 3-4 new things each week can be your own routine.
If you like routines, then make one up for yourself. Being comfortable in your life will soothe you (as much as you need discomfort to push yourself, having a routine makes your life more comfortable and clean which cleans your mind too).
- Selfcare
In each and every ways it can be done.
- Live
Don’t forget that feeling is living, living is growing and growing is feeling. Keep in touch with yourself, but never forget to look at the world out there because truly it is an amazing thing and should never be taken for granted. You’re here, and as mush as you complain, every situations you’ve been through, good or bad, happened because you were an amazing alive human being. Give yourself a chance to just be there. Surprise yourself, love yourself, take care of yourself. Do it before it’s too late.
Okay so I did say small ways and reading my post again I see how unsmall some of the advices are but YOU GET THE POINT. Anyways, if you read this, it means you care and want to take better care of your mental health which I am so fucking proud of you for doing. Mental health is a daily thing, you can’t ignore it for weeks just as much as you can’t stop drinking water for days. It is crucial to live, feel and to just be you. Be you. In all the beautiful and amazing ways you are.
Never fucking forget thar how much determined you are to feel better will make you feel better one day. You’re incredible and you know it.
