Why perfection is not what you should seek
Why the hell do we always need to be perfect? I’ll tell you why, because we can’t face our own bruises. Our scars, our stories, what we really are. Because we always need to compare ourselves and try to pin us down. I genuinely hate that we do that, because it’s so unhealthy, so toxic for our own mental health. Perfection can never be in someone. Unless it’s perfectly imperfect.
When I realised we weren’t meant to be perfect..
There was not an exact moment, I just understood it over time. What I understood was that, if you seek the « perfection » you’re seeing somewhere else to complete your imperfections, you’re doing it wrong. I mean if you think someone’s world is all pink and happy and cute and great and just perfect, then you’re wrong and you need to reflect on yourself more. Nobody’s life is perfect, they all have their own flaws and scars, their own problems, you just don’t know about them because they aren’t your fucking business to know.
You know the scenes I hate most in movies? The scenes where a character is judging, but doesn’t know. Maybe someone else’s life looks easier, but it doesn’t mean it is. You never know what’s really going on inside someone’s mind. People will always complain, but the moment you realise that your own life is yours and yours only, the moment you know that comparing will only make it miserable, that’s when you find at least 50% more inner peace.
The beauty of imperfection
Perfection is a flat line. Perfection is 100%.
What about imperfection though? Imperfection is like a summer recipe, it’s filled with different colors and good vibes. I mean fuck if we would all be perfect it would be a boring ass world. Imperfect people are colorful people, sure they may have some darker colors but ain’t that the point of living? Imperfection is not a negative, it’s a positive we have a hard time looking through. Imperfection is the moment you didn’t follow a plan and it went better than imagined, because it wasn’t perfect. Imperfection is Jackie Chan saying cheese instead of freeze in one of his movies, it’s something that made everybody laugh, but it wasn’t politically perfect. Imperfection is breaking something and putting it back together by modeling it in a different way. Kinda like yourself. Events, memories, scars modulate you into someone different, someone better.
Looking at perfection is boring. Sure it may be breathtaking at first sight, but you know what really is breathtaking? Laughing like a fucking dolphin while peeing your pants because your best friend is just the funniest person alive (no but literally breathtaking, because I can’t find any air when I’m laughing this hard LOL). HOWEVER, looking at imperfection will never be boring, everybody always has something to say, but they say it out of interest for X person/thing. They, whatsoever, put their energy complaining on someone/thing and that’s showing at least a bit of interest. You wouldn’t show interest in something genuinely boring now would you?
I guess what I’m saying is that, you could see someone and think they have everything, and you nothing, but the truth is, they bring to this world a certain mix of color and you bring yours.
Bring out your own imperfection color
You know what you should do? You should go buy a painting canvas, a paint brush paint color and your favorite alcohol (or not, I mean you can always drink water I like it too). Now put on music you love, sip and paint, but I mean PAINT. Like you’ve never before. Just paint whatever you feel, don’t restrict yourself to a form or lines, just paint what you feel like imperfection is. Or just paint period.
What happens when you don’t follow a plan at least once? You let life decide where to take you and man oh man it will take you to gorgeous places. I saw yesterday someone that said, do you want to have a microwaved meal or a crockpot one? If you’re impatient you’ll take the microwave, do it yourself and have it asap. However, if you let life decide and be patient, then you let the meal be cooked in a good old crockpot and then it’s the most delicious you ever had. Now what I’m saying is that imperfection comes with the patience and the letting go that absolute perfection of following plans doesn’t have.
Why is imperfection more perfect than perfection will ever be?
Because it’s not something written down, it’s not a specific model, it just is what it wants to be. You see, what I think is perfect will most probably not be perfect in someone else’s eyes.
Earlier I asked someone close to me what came to mind when they thought about the word perfect. She said, family. Do you know why this is the first thing that came to her mind? Not because her family is book correct or stereotype perfect, but because when you think about something perfect, you’re satisfied, you’re reassured, you feel comfort. She feels the same when she thinks about her family. Perfection is a feeling but people have seek for so long perfection as a specific model. For example, someone skinny but with curves, clean skin, rich, intelligent, etc etc. Who the hell created that model anyways? Got a few words for them. Those bodies are beautiful but so is every other type of body. And anyways, skinny people aren’t perfect just because they’re skinny, rich people aren’t either, intelligent people aren’t either, people that have clean skin probably have other issues that are just not as seen as their face. Perfection is a feeling not a model. That’s why diversity is what builds up the world, because we don’t all like and dislike the same things, because something perfect to you will not be in someone else’s eyes. It can’t, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t perfect, it only means it’s a colorful imperfectly perfect entity that doesn’t fit with everybody.
Moral of the story, focus on YOU and who YOU are. Trying to be somebody else just because the lawn looks greener their way will only make you more miserable. Be grateful for what you have and who you are, be grateful for the flaws you have. Grow yourself and become a better human being, but you should accept the fact that you’ll always be imperfect and that’s the beauty of life. Who you are will always be determined by you not society. Whatever the fuck the model is, fuck the model, live the life you want to live with the colors you need. Paint the shit out of your canva, thrive as much as you can and glow. GLOW your own truth. Being you is a gift and I hope you know it. Focus on you and be present my love.
I really hope this made you realise how worth it you are and how amazing you are.
