My blog’s got 45 posts (now 46 with this one), one post a week and when I decided I went crazy last December, it was two posts/week. I’ve erased many lines, wrote many paragraphs, read my posts again and again to make sure everything I say makes sense and is well said, yet I can’t count the amount of times I had literally, no inspiration. Quite like this weekend. I’ve started two posts prior to this one and have not finished them because I hate them, or I don’t know where to go with them, or feel like they’re not up to my standards. Crazy. Let’s talk about it now.
What about inspiration?
Can we still be original? Is there a way we can create something completely brand new? Society is filled with makeup brands, clothes brands, car brands, food brands, decoration brands, multiple magazines, multiple TV shows, multiple movies, it’s filled with people that are fueled by creation, organization, separation of tasks and much more. What do all these people have in common though? Inspiration.
Yet, I’m still wondering, can we keep being original?
We’re inspired by things we see, things we hear, things we make up in our minds with our own imagination, but what happens when everything looks the same old and you’re stuck there wondering what the fuck can be done for that project considering someone probably had the first 40 ideas you just had? What happens when the page stays blank?
As much as you can find ideas while doing your laundry or walking your dog, there are times in which you ACTUALLY need to create and nothing comes to mind. It’s like you brain’s so full of ideas yet none of them are good enough or are THE one. Although sometimes you do just feel like everybody in your brain packed their things and left work, because your bucket of idea is crazy empty.
9 ways to find it back
- The setting
This one is so important to me, my mind can’t be completely in my writing if I don’t have a water bottle next to me, my headphones and music on, sitting comfortably in a place that makes me feel inspired. Now, if you’re feeling like inspiration is lacking, maybe try another setting, or go to a place you rarely go, maybe it’ll change the air and the ideas will flow more easily. Don’t forget to have everything your setting needs (in my case, a water bottle or coffee).
- Go for a walk
Don’t even think about it, just enjoy the nature, look around you and let yourself breath for a second. Sometimes, just getting out of the task that needs your focus is a way to find it. You either sleep or walk on it lol.
- Ask people’s opinion on it
Getting someone’s output on something can either make you think of a good idea or IS a good idea. They might bring up a point you didn’t even think of.
- Write down the few ideas you have
Then you look at them and try to think outside the box, what can you do with this? How can you expand this idea? Where could it lead you? Maybe thinking about further details can confirm you’re going with it, or certain you’re not. It can even lead you to another plan.
- Meditation
Remember in Hangover II when Alan did meditation and suddenly remembered few parts of the previous night which led them to reconstruct it all and find Teddy? So, you’re looking for inspiration and they were looking for Teddy, it’s basically the same. Relaxing your mind and soul can bring clarity. Bonus point if you’re in a Temple.
- Look on Google, Pinterest, etc.
I’m definitely not telling you to copy, I’m just saying looking for inspiration online can bring you the one you need. Place you where you want to be and where you don’t.
- Do something else
Remember, you don’t chase, you attract. So, if the inspiration won’t come to you why would you chase it? Let it come to you, in the meantime clean up your whole house, do your laundry, go walk your dog, run your errands, etc. Like I said, inspiration often arrives when you least expect it.
- Sleep on it
What I think I love most with my mind is when I can’t find a GREAT idea and then, surprisingly I see it in my dream at night and wake up knowing the answer was with me all along. My father once recreated a Spaghetti recipe he made in one of his dreams and it was delicious. Anyways, sleep on it and see what happens next, if it doesn’t work, start the list again.
- Let it go
Frozen coded LOL (I can’t say let it go without singing anymore).
No but for real, take a break from it, don’t touch it again today and try tomorrow. Some days are made to have a blank mind as much as some days are needed to start painting this mind again.
Originality has always been a huge part of society, we cite people’s words, we put the name of people that started a trend on our own video, we put photographers’ name on pictures for copy rights, etc. Why? Well my guess is as simple as it is: we want people to know we’re the one that made this exact piece because it’s been much more complicated to have a piece nobody ever seen. Look at fashion, they have no ideas what to do anymore because everything was kind of already done, or seen. So, they make up upside down dresses or simply in every direction dresses – reference to Viktor & Rolf at Paris fashion week last year (honestly kind of iconic if you ask me, but still, we’re going far for originality). No wonder our brains lack some inspiration sometimes, so much has been done already! Let’s not give up though, we’re all intelligent and creative for a reason, inspiration isn’t something the human can lack. Just a few times in a year.
Hopefully this helped you figure out what the fuck you should do.
