What to do & not do to stay motivated & work through your goals
If you knew you wouldn’t fail, how far would you go with your dreams & goals? Pursuing what you want in life is not easy and the key to getting them is the constitution of these pillars: Consistency, determination & motivation. Determination comes from what change you want to bring by realizing those dreams, it’s the fire in your eyes when you think/talk about it. Motivation is not only wanting to do it but also keeping in mind why you want to do it and why you should get your fucking ass up and act. However, for human reasons, your motivation gauge won’t always be filled up, but that’s when consistency comes in. Consistency is the mix of both motivation and determination, it’s showing up E.VE.RY.DAY. Even on those days when you’d prefer not to, it keeps you on that working hard road because that’s how you’ll find your dream destination. Even though you may be out of gas or have a flat tire on the road, it’s the way you fix it and the way you keep going that will show you the real you and will make you able to get those goals. The truth is, you have it all in you, it’s in your back pocket, but sometimes it’s just easier to sit on it then to reach for it.
I myself, created that blog but it took so long for it to come out because life happens but also because sometimes I decided to sit on my ass and not work through it. Then there was this one time when I decided I was closing this fucking deal and getting my blog out and I did. I am so happy I did, but that’s when the real work started, consistency is the key, but motivation is what makes the key appear and it’s not always easy but here are some tips I use that helps me. You should take a look at them too.
- Never forget the why
The why is the reason you started this, the moment you decided that was your goal and the thing that give you a boost of serotonin when you think about achieving it.
My mother always wanted to be a nurse and she did get her diploma. However, she did it while having three kids in her mid-20s, which was incredibly hard but she still had 100% on every exams except one where she got 90-95% (I don’t remember the exact grade), she literally excelled in this because it was her passion and she felt so good everytime she thought about achieving it. But if you ask me if I want to get my nurse diploma or how I would feel if I had it, I’d tell you, I wouldn’t achieve it because thinking about doing this does not make me feel good about me, it’s not who I am. However, you tell me in the future you’re going to help people about their mental health and make them feel better, in this category I feel the serotonin going through my body.
When you keep reminding yourself of what you want, you’ll eventually get it.
- Failures are the ones that never try
Not in a comparison type of way but in the way of you can only fail if you don’t try. Maybe what you tried won’t work but how can it be a failure when you fucking learned through it? How can it be a failure when the next time you’ll try, you’ll know not to make that choice, or how to handle x situation, etc.? It can never be a failure when you got to learn and get experience.
When you don’t try and push through you fail the opportunities, and that’s how you’ll never get where you want to be.
- Time is money, but money is also time
You need to take the time to do whatever it is that can help you get your goals. If you always say, well I’m too busy, I don’t have the time, I don’t have the money, I can’t because of this and because of that and blablabla. You’re wasting your time by giving the world excuses when in reality, you’re just letting your great ideas down. You know, selfcare is important, and part of selfcare is achieving so taking time to realise a project you’ve been thinking about is selfcare in the achieving section. When you waste your time not doing shit when you could be creating this big idea, that’s money lost. Imagine, if you would have spent the whole day working on this, maybe it wouldn’t have brought you money right away but in the future yes. Maybe it would’ve brought you an other opportunity which will bring you money in the future. But if you let that day slip by only by being on Tiktok the whole time, you’re not wasting money but you’re not gaining it either. You’re just wasting time.
Money is precious and we all want a whole lot of it, but what we do have a lot whole of is time, and time also is fucking precious.
- Create a vision board
IT IS NOT STUPID OR WEIRD IT IS GREAT AND SELF-FULFILLING. Vision boards not only make you create but they give you the opportunity to really see what you’ve been thinking about, it’s a pretty reminder that this is part of your big destination and the journey you’re going through to get there. Mind you, creating is a BIG part of selfcare and self growth because it really does boost your Creative Neurotransmitters (serotonin, dopamine & neuropeptide oxytocin) which is really healthy for your mental health.
Also, it can be a cute decoration for your room or wallpaper. Anyways, this is manifesting and making your own life better because you’re surrounding yourself with things that give you butterflies and make you happy and that’s really good.
- Separate work & pleasure
Sometimes, work has a negative connotation without us really seeing it, and if you associate this connotation to your great project, it can push down your motivation. Instead try to separate the two of them, by not saying you’re working but rather you’re doing. I know it’s not the case for everybody but I see so many people give a negative connotation to work that it can influence the world around them and if you’re trying to get a personal project to bloom, maybe it won’t bloom the way you want it to if you give it a negative association. If that’s the case, then maybe try to change your perception.
- Surround yourself good
Be surrounded by supportive people, because if they support you, they can help bring your motivation up when you feel like it’s going down.
- Visualisation
Visualise yourself win, visualize your project blooming and being proud of yourself. You can meditate on that, put on some meditation sound, close your eyes and imagine this :
It’s that X day, you’re wearing this specific outfit, surrounded by these people, in this place and you’re receiving successful actions from other because you made it and you feel so proud of yourself. You feel at your place and you’re ready for your next adventure. You love what’s happening and can’t comprehend how much it all means to you because your hard work finally paid off.
Imagine and be specific and do it once a week or more if necessary. Meditating is so powerful and you probably don’t even know how much.
What not to do to keep your motivation up
- Comparison & jealousy
Just don’t. When you compare you’re literally putting a wall between you and your success. Being secretly (or not) jealous of someone is so unhealthy and such a loser act. I mean, if someone close to you gets where they want to be, why would you be jealous? Take a moment here and answer my question. Do you sincerely want to be surrounded by losers? Or do you want to be surrounded by winners, people who work their ass of and have as big goals as you? Listen closely to your answer.
You can never compare yourself because (of course we’re human we do it from time to time, I’m saying you should not do it everyday, every minute, it should be rare) your life is yours and their life is theirs. If you see someone win before you, it may bum you out but try changing your way of thinking and be proud/happy for them. Telling yourself ‘’they won and I didn’t, that means I’m not good enough or [whatever shit goes trough your mind]…’’ is only going to create this unhealthy competition between you and other people when it should be you challenging yourself. When YOU win, do you want these people to be jealous or to be proud and grateful they have you by their side to learn from you?
- I’ll do it tomorrow
This IS the biggest bullshit ever. If you can’t do it today because life happens then ok, but if you can’t do it today because you’d prefer watch a movie, than it is not the right reason and you probably won’t do it tomorrow either. With that mindset, everything will always be pushed off and so will your motivation.
- Be ashamed
Never be ashamed of what you could accomplish. Never be scared of what people will think.
If you were successful & rich, would you take x action by caring what other people think? You wouldn’t because you’d think to yourself, I’ve gone through many shit and I know this is how I got where I am, not by caring what they fucking think. Well if you gain this mindset right away, you’re one step closer to your goal than you think. Like Steve Harvey said, ‘’People’s opinion of you is none of your business, nor should you make it yours’’.
- Having vague goals
Set multiple specific little goals which will be easier to attain. If you keep having just one big goal without actions and steps, you’ll feel as unmotivated as ever because to your own self you’ll never feel achievement until you’ve reached the big goal. However, it is mostly about the journey, not the destination, do not forget that. Achievement is good for your mental health, and it makes you happier which helps you keep motivated to work towards that big goal.
- Never being there for yourself
If you let your self down and are to hard on you, YOU will drive this project off a cliff. You’re the one in charge but you shouldn’t be making you mad at yourself, you accept what you did wrong and learn from it and that’s achievement. Reward yourself and be kind with you because you could’ve done nothing, you could’ve sat on your ass and watch the opportunity pass you by but you didn’t and that’s how proud you should be instead of pressing yourself down.
Motivation is and never will be a straight line, if you think so then you need to shift that mindset of yours because it won’t make you win. There will probably be more bad days than good ones but recognizing how much more you grow through those bad days is what will help you get them and transform a bad day into an okay one.
You have to push yourself and work hard to get what you want and how you’ll do it shows a lot of character and you’ll be so fucking proud you did it, actually you should already be proud for starting because that’s one hell of a job. So if you don’t get out of your way for what you want to achieve, something in what you’re doing is wrong and I know it’s hard but when you don’t feel the motivation, create it.
We both know you can do it.
Mwah.
